My focus is on the diagnosis and treatment of my patients’ neuro-muscular dysfunction. My process involves the use of orthopedic and functional testing. A treatment with me would include some or all of the following: neuro-functional acupuncture, Active Release Techniques(ART), instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization, joint manipulation (30% of cases), corrective exercises.
The neuro-functional approach to acupuncture integrates a variety of needling techniques during a single session. Unlike the Eastern system of acupuncture, which traditionally selects only points along meridians, functional needling blends tradition with science, targeting anatomical structures (nerves, muscles/ tendons, ligaments) that are the underlying cause of musculo-skeletal conditions. The benefits are pain relief, decreased muscle tension, improved function, and ultimately, accelerated recovery of injury.
ART is a soft tissue system/movement based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. It is effective for low back pain, neck pain, elbow tendonosis, rotator cuff tendonosis, knee pain, shin splints, carpal tunnel syndrome, running injuries and numerous other overuse conditions.
My approach in the management of chronic overuse injuries is popular among hockey & football players, marathon runners, Crossfit and power lifting athletes. I have a special interest in correcting faulty neuro-muscular patterns and strongly believe that treating the nervous system is the key to full and functional rehabilitation.
I am currently pursuing my designation as a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician as well as training in Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (Prague School of Rehabilitation).
